Production Log #2

The second rough cut was when I decided to finish most of my editing, so this version took me around 2 weeks to finish. The process of adding sound effects was a pain because I had to find the sounds that fit the actions in the shots. The most difficult part was that I had to find the same or similar materials that make the sound effects (for example, I had to look for the sound of a rusty metallic door opening so that it fit the actions in the shots). The duration and volume of these sound effects were a big trouble too, and that part was the most time-consuming overall.

That is a total of 13 sounds... crazy!

I also tried to add credits in between my scenes to make my transitions smoother (fewer sudden cuts) and also to introduce my roles throughout the film opening. When I first started editing, I thought about putting credits all in the same frame at the same time, but as I edited I changed my mind and put each of the credit in a separate frame.

I also made some changes when editing the title for the film opening. I headed for the option of putting the title on top of a black frame just like what I did with the credits. However, I feel like it's been repeated for too many times, so I put the title on top of my last scene instead. It felt more right and natural that way because it carried out the significance of my chosen genre better.

Result: Rough Cut #2

I feel like I've done most of the job after the second rough cut. However, the time length is still too long (more than 3 minutes), so I knew the next rough cut would be cutting down shots. To be honest, I was quite satisfied with what I've created here, the sound effects sound suitable and real, and the continuity is decent as well. I will try to ask my audience which shots feel like they could be cut out so that the opening lies within the required length without any changes in the plot.
