Language in Media

Media language is the term used to refer to the techniques and conventions used by media producers to create meanings in media texts. These techniques can include the use of:

- Visual codes: components that relate to the look of a media text, e.g. the use of color, lighting, and composition

-Technical codes: techniques used to create and manipulate the images and sounds in a media text, e.g. camera shots, editing, and sound effects

- Verbal codes: words and phrases in a media text, e.g. dialogue, narration, and captions

-Narrative codes: conventions used to tell a story, e.g. the use of plot, characters, setting, and conflict
